I was once enjoying some lovely shops in PEI and admiring local crafts when two ladies entered the store and started admiring some of the local art work for sale. They "oooed" and "ahhed" over a few pieces by one artist in particular. They both stood in front of a piece and examined it closely. I thought for sure that one women in particular was going to purchase it. What happened next seriously disappointed me. Instead of forking out the $15.00 or so dollars that the piece was listed for, the women proclaimed that she could make it herself. I was shocked, personally offended and not to mention, annoyed.
It is all too easy in a world of DIY, Instagram, and Pinterest for people to think it is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Yes of course people can duplicate, replicate, and COPY the work of others, but does that mean you should?? Furthermore, most of the time, it really isn't that easy. I watch Bob Ross do his extraordinary paintings and he makes it look SO EASY. However, I could use the same supplies and copy the video step by step and I guarantee it would not come out looking nearly as good.
I think people need to be conscious of this and if you find something you love and can afford, BUY IT! Even if you CAN make something yourself, will you? And if you do, will it be as good? Probably not. Pay the $15.00 and help support someone who is trying to make an honest living.
