In 2012 I graduated from NBCCD with a diploma in Surface Designs/Textiles. I also left with a couple of great friendships. Two in particular were with my friend Hannah and her husband Theron. Hannah was a bridesmaid in my wedding, and my husband and I traveled to their wedding in Bermuda about a year later. Over the years we have lived in different provinces, experienced different growing pains in life, and have carried out our craft in different ways. Luckily for me Hannah, Theron, and their beautiful daughter moved back to Fredericton from Halifax recently - YAY! (I am rejoicing. Hannah and Theron however, not so much. lol)
A few weeks ago I was invited to travel to Moncton to do a shoot with the amazing Stephanie Lane in Denis Duquette's studio. I stole Hannah away for the day and boy oh boy what a refreshment that was! I forget how great it feels to have a partner in creative crime! Hannah and I talked non stop the whole way to and from Moncton about life, art and culture. When we were on set Hannah helped me pull together outfits using my hand dyed silks and new silk cotton boxers (coming soon!) She even told me about a new trend called "Athleisure" which is the direction in which we chose to style the shoot.
"WTHeck is Athleisure" you ask? Athleisure is a trend that has become very popular and is a style that is meant to be worn for exercise and every day wear. One of the reasons for its increased popularity is that it is SO COMFORTABLE! I mean...who doesn't want to wear yoga pants all day?! Also, because you can rock this style while working out AND while out running errands, you are saving money on only one outfit instead of two. (Something Millennials hugely value - saving money, and spending time/money on experiences vs things.)
More pictures from this incredibly fun shoot will be posted on my Instagram page shortly, but for now I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak:) Thanks again to everyone involved, and a huge shout out to Liv and Stephanie. (This was one of Liv's first shoots ever! Didn't she look AMAZING!?)
Let me know your thoughts on the new Athleisure trend below!
