If you read my kindness Q&A with Jon last week, this is his wife Amanda! Amanda is cute and sweet and is always super kind to those around her.
Tell us a little bit more about yourself!
I am 27 years old and originally from the Fredericton area. I have been a licensed esthetician for 6 years and I’m fully Aveda trained. I love making others feel good about themselves! There’s just something about a client looking in the mirror at your work and telling you how good you make them feel.
I recently decided to go back to school and I’ve almost completed my first year of the Office Administration: Medical course at NBCC. It was time to try something new and challenge myself. I’m very excited about my new future career but I plan on doing my esthetics on the side. I love makeup, and my future goal is to start my own freelance makeup business for weddings, proms, bodybuilding shows and other special events.
One of my hobbies is singing, I love to sing! It’s been a passion of mine since I was a little girl and my aunt started me out singing in church haha. I took voice lessons growing up and sang in competitions. Another goal of mine is to start singing more because it’s honestly a therapy to me.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a crazy cat lady. We adopted Igor from CARMA a year ago and honestly if I could adopt all the cats I would!
What is something you do to be kind to yourself on a daily basis?
I think it’s important to make time for myself daily and do at least one thing that makes me feel good! Getting a good workout in at the gym, treating myself to a craving and not feeling guilty about it (it’s called balance), treating myself to spa day, getting my hair done, or enjoying a bubble bath with a glass of wine after a long day.
I know this sounds cheesy but, I think it’s so important to look in the mirror every day and find a couple of things you love about yourself!
What is the kindest thing that someone has ever done for you?
The most recent was on my birthday, a few of the girls in my class covered my locker in balloons and sticky notes. It’s the little things that make a person feel special.
What made you get into the fitness industry?
I was always intrigued by the gym and eating healthy. One day I decided to give it a try and ended up loving it! I love lifting weights and feeling strong. When I first met my husband I decided to do my first bikini competition and he taught me my way around the gym. He did every single workout with me, and even drove through terrible snowstorms to make sure I was able to get to my workout in haha.
Who shows you kindness regularly? (How?)
When I sit and think about it there’s so much kindness expressed to me daily. It could be my husband telling me how pretty I look when I’m ready to leave for school, my friends at school keeping me motivated and helping me with my assignments, someone stopping for me on a busy street to let me go, a stranger holding a door. Showing kindness to others daily can make such a difference in their day.
